Hilltop PTA Committees and Chairs
2007-2008

   
Audit Chair:
Review the PTA Treasurer’s books to ensure they are in order each June. A minimum of three people is necessary and the members cannot be current signers of the PTA checking account. One-time project.  
   
Puyallup Council Representative Chair:
Represents Hilltop PTA at Daffodil Council meetings. Ongoing task.  
   
School Board Representative Chair:
Attend the Puyallup School Board meetings as a representative of Hilltop PTA. Meetings are held on the second and fourth Mondays, at alternating schools, at either 4:30pm of 7:00pm. Ongoing task.  
   
Standing Rules Chair:
Ensures the Standing Rules are current with any changes in the state PTA by-laws and make suggested amendments. Provides membership of advance notice of Standing Rules revisions. Short-term project.  
   
Teacher Requests Chair:
Contact teachers regarding requests that the would like the PTA to consider for the upcoming school year.  This should be done prior to the beginning prep of the next year's budget.  
   
Community Outreach Chair:
Advertise and coordinate several drives to collect items for the needy in our community. School supplies, food, toys, and used clothes are some of the items collected throughout the year to benefit our kids. This person will work closely with the school counselor to make sure these items are distributed appropriately. Collection may be combined with family activities such as free entry to movie night when you bring a can of food. Ongoing project.  
   
School Clean-Up Chair:
Work with school district facilities department to coordinate a fall clean-up to get the school ready for the first day. One-time event.  
   
Vice President:  
Book Fair Chair:
Organize and conduct book fairs so that students can buy books. Library receives profits and/or free books. Ongoing project.  
   
Fall Fundraiser Chair:
Works with Fundraising Coordinator to ensure that fundraiser is well coordinated and meets financial goals. Short-term project.  
   
Popcorn Chair:
Coordinate schedule for volunteers to pop and sell popcorn each Friday at the school. Ongoing project.  
   
Spring Fundraiser Chair:
Works with Fundraising Coordinator to ensure that fundraiser is well coordinated and meets financial goals. Short-term project.  
   
Store Rebate Programs Chair:
Promote shopping at the various retailers that provide rebates to PTAs based on sales (i.e. Albertson’s, Target, Schoolcash.com). Have materials ready prior to start of school. Explore opportunities with other retailers. Ongoing project.  
   
Wreath Sale Chair: J
Conduct a wreath sale in the fall, with wreaths to be distributed at the Santa Make and Take. Short-term project.  
   
Vice President:   
After School Program Chair:
Works with the administration in developing/coordinating programs at Hilltop to take place on Wednesday early release days.  Ongoing project.  
   
Assemblies Chair:
Research and plan assemblies that will be entertaining and educational. Topics such as safety, science, nature and technology can be addressed. Ongoing project.  
 
Field Day Chair:
Organize and conduct field days for the students toward the end of they school year. One-time event.  
   
Fitness Trail Chair:
Coordinate researching improving our fitness trail. Make a recommendation to the board at the end of the school year. Ongoing project.  
   
Reflections Chair:
Promote the arts with a yearly PTA sponsored contest in which students can use photography, drawings, writings or music. Hold an after school work shop for students to work on their projects, if desired. Display entries at the Santa Make and Take. Coordinates taking finalists to Daffodil Council. Short-term event.  
   
T-Shirt Sale Chair:
Choose a Hilltop Huskies Spirit Shirt and present your ideas to the board.  Handle flyers, selling, and ordering the shirts. Short-term project.  
   
Secretary  
Golden Acorn Award Chair:
COMMITTEE WILL BE SELECTED BY PRESIDENT. Coordinates the nomination of and selection of Golden Acorn Award recipient(s). Coordinates event honoring recipient(s). Committee is to be comprised of one past Golden Acorn recipient and at least two PTA members. The award shall be made public at a general membership meeting. Short-term event.  
   
Outstanding Educator Award Chair:
COMMITTEE WILL BE SELECTED BY PRESIDENT. Initiates the implementation of the PTA Outstanding Educator Award. Short-term event.  
   
Outstanding Advocate Award Chair
COMMITTEE WILL BE SELECTED BY PRESIDENT. Initiates the implementation of the PTA Outstanding Advocated Award.  Short-term event.  
   
Kindergarten Orientation/Registration Chair:
Work to assist in coordinating Kindergarten orientation, prepare PTA packets for registration in the spring, plan an event for Kindergarten parents for the purpose of orienting them to PTA, consider planning a mentoring program. One-time event.  
   
Membership Chair:
Design a membership campaign and actively seek new members for Hilltop PTA and register them through the state PTA on-line registration system. Ongoing task.  
   
Volunteer Coordinator Chair:
Ensure that all classrooms have a room parent and keep in contact with them when volunteers are needed. Request seven days advance notice when volunteers are needed. Thank them appropriately. Coordinate event honoring them. Ongoing task.  
   
Welcoming Committee Chair:
Assemble information packets to be distributed to new families who come to our school. Ongoing task.  
   
Treasurer: 
After School Program Scholarships Chair:
Works with school counselor to assist students financially in participating in after school programs. Ongoing task.  
   
Budget Chair:
Assist in coordinating and compiling information to prepare and present the 2005-2006 annual budget. Short-term project.  
 
Banners Chair:
Coordinate with different event chairs to make and hang banners throughout the school.  Ongoing project.
 
Bulletin Board Chair:
Decorate and display PTA information such as meeting agendas, minutes and upcoming events on the PTA bulletin board in the Hilltop foyer. Ongoing project.  
   
Memory/Yearbook Chair:
Create, sell and publish a yearbook or work with a company to do so to highlight the activities that occur at Hilltop Elementary over the school year. Ensure that proper permission is obtained from parents in photographing students. Ongoing project.  
   
Newsletter Chair:
Coordinates and produces a monthly newsletter with Hilltop PTA information. Ongoing project.  
   
School Directory Chair:
Solicits and compiles information to be placed in an all-school directory. Prepares, produces, and distributes the finished product. Short-term project.  
   
   
Back-to-School Event Chair: Board
Work with school administration to plan activities associated with Back-to-School. Work with volunteer coordinator, membership, kindergarten orientation, and welcome wagon committees to ensure a coordinated event. One-time event.  
   
Carnival Chair:
Coordinate a family carnival. Work with volunteer coordinator to ensure event is well staffed. One-time event.  
   
Family Skate Nights Chair:
Work with local skating rink and Hilltop staff to organize four skate nights: October, December, January, and March. Promote these as family nights. Dates must be booked one year in advance. Ongoing project.  
   
Movie Nights Chair:
Works to coordinate 3-4 movie nights. Selects age appropriate movies. Works with volunteer coordinator to ensure staffing to sell snacks and to make popcorn. Ongoing event.  
   
Santa Make ‘n Take Chair:
Coordinates annual Santa Workshop event. Determines craft/activity stations. Works with volunteer coordinator to staff event. Short-term event.  
   
   
Emergency Preparedness Chair:
Consider the transition from a “quake pack” per student system to an all inclusive shed system. If going to an all-inclusive, PTA purchased system, coordinate the purchase/donation of items.  If staying with a quake pack system, consider working with a quake pack company.   On-going project.  
   
Legislative Representative Chair:
Attend PTA Legislative Assembly, held in October, and keep Hilltop PTA and our community informed of legislation that affect children. Ongoing project.  
   
Product Label Redemption Chair:
Collect, count and organize various product labels (i.e. Campbell’s soup, Box tops for Education, Foster Farms). Promote the use of these programs within the school. Work with PTA and teachers to order items earned. Ongoing project.  
   
Staff Appreciation Chair:
Ensure a warm atmosphere for the teachers on special occasions, such as first day of school, birthdays, teacher appreciation week, last day of school and holidays. This can be dome with help from the volunteer coordinator’s efforts and using small snacks, flowers, cards, and posters. Ongoing project.  
   
Web Site Chair:
Serve as web master for the Hilltop PTA web site. Ongoing project.
